Discover the beauty of the Shola Cryptocoryne, a rare aquatic plant originally found in the streams of the Western Ghats, southwestern India. Cultivated since the 1980s as Cryptocoryne sp. “Shola Forest”, it was officially described in 2013 as Cryptocoryne spiralis var. caudigera. This plant is a hidden gem for aquascapers, offering both versatility and elegance in freshwater aquariums.

Key Features:

  • Appearance: Light green, narrow leaves forming dense tufts; height ranges from 2035 cm submerged. Leaves are soft, flexible, and about 0.51 cm wide.
  • Growth & Propagation: Forms short runners and develops dense leaf rosettes over time. Moderate growth rate and easy to propagate by splitting.
  • Care Requirements: Hardy and resilient, rarely affected by Crypt melt. Thrives in soft to medium-hard water with moderate lighting. A nutrient-rich substrate supports optimal growth.
  • Aquascaping Use: Perfect for backgrounds in small tanks or midground bushes in larger aquariums. Its moderate height and controllable growth make it ideal for creative aquascaping. Sways naturally in the current, making it excellent for stream biotope tanks.
  • Paludarium Adaptation: When grown emersed, it reaches about 15 cm in height, making it suitable for paludarium setups.
